Lalesa Black Honey, our newest Ethiopian filter coffee.

Bold, sweet and vibrant, when cupping this coffee reminded us of Malbec, Cream Soda & Violet.

We love the intense, abundant bright fruit flavours and delicate aromatics that Ethiopian coffee is known for (especially their heirloom coffees). Heirloom coffees are indigenous varieties, grown with minimal intervention and are sought after for their rich flavours. In our Lalesa, they contrast beautifully with the character provided by the Black Honey fermentation process used after harvest. A careful process that enhances the sweetness of the coffee and adds a rich, wine-like quality to the flavour profile along with a clean, bright finish. 

This coffee comes to us from Ephtah Speciality Coffee. Ephtah was founded by Wubit Bekele and is centred around sustainable practices and creating a collaborative supply chain. Along with this, it was female founded and focused, offering female employees opportunity and parity that is often inaccessible to them in other local industries. 

The organisation works to provide farmers with ways to grow or better their production, whether through means such as pre-finance, improvement projects or even donating drying beds. These efforts are just some of the ways which Ephtah works with local farmers to raise the quality of their produce and the region's reputation as a whole.
